The rule
The 2026 amendment to the Labour Act is reported to extend maternity leave from 16 weeks to 120 days, 60 before and 60 after delivery, paid at the monthly wage divided by 26 for each day. The benefit is due to a worker with at least six months of service before the expected date, and is not payable if she already has two or more surviving children. One source still describes 16 weeks, so check the current gazette; the number of days is editable above.
A worker on maternity leave cannot be dismissed, and the benefit is paid in two instalments: the first before the leave starts, the second within days of proof of delivery.
